Postpartum Care Visits
After the birth, you will remain with us in the delivery room for approximately 2 to 3 hours. During this time, we care for you and your baby, carry out all necessary examinations, and assist with the first attempts at breastfeeding.
If you are feeling well and have arranged a postpartum midwife for an outpatient birth, you can go home directly from the obstetrics unit after 4 hours. If you stay with us for a few days (2 to 3 days after a vaginal birth, or 3 to 4 days after a cesarean birth), you will be transferred to our postpartum ward. There, a caring and dedicated nursing team will look after you and your baby around the clock.
All obstetric staff take part in regular breastfeeding training and can provide individual support with everything that arises after the birth — especially with breastfeeding. Our obstetrics department is certified as a “Baby-Friendly Hospital” by the WHO and UNICEF.
Several family rooms are available on the postpartum ward. Subject to sufficient capacity, any available room can be used as a family room. It is not possible to reserve one in advance, as availability can only be determined directly after the birth, based on current occupancy. Family rooms cost 100 euros per night; this includes three meals per day.
Several times a week, the midwifery team provides a midwife who visits people who have given birth in recent days on the ward. Particular attention is given to reviewing the birth, checking the involution of the uterus, and examining any possible birth injuries. If you are on the postpartum ward, have given birth, and would specifically like a midwife visit on a particular day, please feel free to speak to the nursing staff.

Post-Birth Consultations
During birth, it's very important to us to make decisions together, communicate openly, respond to your wishes, and explain every step.
Even so, it can sometimes be helpful after the birth to go through the birth report together once more, talk about the experience, and clarify any questions you may have. Your attending midwife, and, if you wish, a physician colleague as well, are available for this.
Feel free to get in touch by email a few weeks after the birth if you would like a birth report and/or an appointment for a birth debriefing conversation: hebamme@havelhoehe.de

Postpartum Home Care
The postpartum period covers the first twelve weeks after birth. This sensitive phase focuses on physical recovery after pregnancy and childbirth, hormonal changes, breastfeeding or infant feeding, the development of the newborn, and adjusting to life as a family. Some of our midwives offer postpartum care through home visits to support you during this time. Availability depends on your residential area and the individual midwife’s capacity. Please contact one of the midwives listed below directly for care inquiries.
